Relativized X' Theory and the Null Subject Romance Languages

富山 晴仁(岡山大大学院)

There is ample syntactic evidence suggesting that the Null Subject Romance Languages (NSRLs) do not project Spec of IP. The absence of Spec of IP has an important implication under Relativized X' Theory, proposed in Fukui and Speas 1986 and Fukui 1986, and developed in Saito and Fukui 1998. This presentation will point out that Relativized X' Theory, in conjunction with some auxiliary assumptions, accounts for the distribution of Clitic Left Dislocated (CLLDed) elements in the NSRLs.
